Ugo Nespolo 1986, fresco
In this abstract work, faces, streets, fields, and fragments of Nespolo’s playful world fit together like a puzzle. Eyes gaze at the viewer as if seeking connection, but more truly, they are figures and stand-ins, masks, an undifferentiated and anonymous humanity poised between fun and tragedy. Figures gaze at us, but also at us, ephemeral beings who cannot claim an identity.
